YES THEY ARE!! I did not realize how loud and energetic gambels are, both as babies and adults. Are California quail calmer?

From what I've read, CA quail are much calmer (not sure about quieter - they still call and crow ofc), despite being a similar/sister species. They were the quail I originally wanted but I was given the gambel eggs as a gift they're cool quail, not complaining because I really enjoy them a ton! But man they are go go go all the time and I have to be on my toes in case they decide to spaz when I enter the aviary for maintenance stuff. Sometimes you just want to relax not watch the quail version of a derby haha.
