My Americauna chicks are about 5 weeks old. They just were moved to their outdoor brooder yesterday. All seemed well until a few hours ago I noticed 2 are mouth breathing and rolling around on the ground and they just aren't acting right. Its 79 out so I wouldn't think too hot and they are staying in the sun not the shady side. I put some sav-a-chick in their water but I'm not sure what else to do for them. I'm terrified of coming home from work in the morning and finding them deceased. Thank you.

The weather may have something to do with it. What is your location? It's very important information. Did it get this hot all of a sudden following weeks of cool weather? Direct sun may not be a good idea if the chicks haven't experienced such weather.

If the ground is much cooler than the air temp, they are most likely transferring their excess body heat to the coolness of the ground. Is the "ground" soil or pine or straw bedding?

What are the chicks being fed? Are they getting chick grit to digest it?

I'm in Kansas. The weather has been fairly consistent. They're on chick starter feed and I did offer grit since they're outside now. They're on the ground. They have an area with straw but they don't seem to prefer it.
