Hi,
We have a 5 week old duckling who has small cluster of feathers sticking out at an odd angle. Other than that she is a very happy duck. Any thoughts? Thanks

sounds like Angel wing and here is the link to how to fix it. let us know if it works for your ducklings.. https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...how-we-wrap-to-mend-it-pictorial#post_8682154

Yes, Thank you! that seems to be what it is. She's big but I suppose we wrap the wing and let her swim? I'd love to hear other experiences anyone has had with wrapping it themselves. and I wonder if we are too late?

What are you feeding your ducks? I read somewhere that angel wing is caused by vitamin deficiency or too much sugars/carbs in their diet.

Hi! I had a hen that had what sounds like the same issue. Her feathers did not quite lay correctly compared to her sisters. I took her to the vet at around 6 weeks of age when I realized that her feathers were just "not right..." The vet diagnosed her with a hereditary form of angel wing. He had me wrap her wing with vet wrap. The overall process took around 2 weeks. THIS WAS SUCCESSFUL! Since she was young, her wing joint was corrected with the vet wrap. She was able to fly around very well. You need to take your bird to see a vet. If you do not have an avian vet in your area, please let me know. I am happy to try and communicate the process I took with mine. It must be corrected right away though!!!

Yes, diets too high in protein can cause this... or in birds that are fed human food, such as ducks in the park. There is also a kind that is a genetic mutation... It's weird...

That IS weird. That's like saying rickets can either be genetic or dietary. What a strange thing. :p At least it's fixable! Poor duckie. It's good he has a mama that can take care of him.

They only eat a Water Fowl Starter feed and we give them some green peas/lettuce/kale/pansies on occasion so far. I don't have a vet for our ducks and I would like to hear how to wrap her wing. Do we need to keep her dry for the 2 weeks by taking away any water play?. (quite a trick with a duck) Thanks for your help!
