We have 5 chicks but only one golden laced wyandotte. (S)he is the sweetest bird! And also much bigger than the others. Really hope it is a she so we can keep her AND keep our nearby neighbors as friends.

How old is the chick? I can't say for certain if it is a boy or girl but what I would watch for is wattle and comb development (fast development = roo) and lacing. If the chick is only developing lacing on the chest then it is a boy.

Thanks! The chick actually has reddishness on the wattle area, and a slight bump there. It is 5 weeks old. How fast is fast development? What is lacing?

If you can get a better picture of the comb and wattles it would help. At five weeks my GLW had hardly any wattles and her comb was flesh colored not pink. Lacing is this:

The feathers are gold colored with black outlines (lacing)
A pullet will have lacing all over. A roo will have lacing mainly only on his chest.

The Silver that I posted a pic of above was pinker than that for weeks (much earlier than the Golden) and she was definitely a girl. I'm not an expert and have only had chickens for a year but my opinion (for what it's worth) is that you have a girl. And a cute little girl at that! I love watching the center of their wings fill in with their color. I have a silver and four BLRW's that are about 4 weeks right now and just starting to get their coloring. By 8 weeks they should be showing what their patterning will look like. I have two that are very light and two very dark so out of the four I'm hoping I'll get some beautiful lacing. (Mine are just from a hatchery, not pure bloodlines but they're pretty anyway.)

I had some GLW chicks, and I ordered these from a hatchery. Anyhow, I ordered two females and one male. The male took a very long time to feather....He still looked like a fuzzy big baby, when the ladies had quite a lot of feathers......Now, I've got some SLW, and same thing.....the gals have their feathers coming in quite well, but the one that I'm almost positive is the male, just looks like a very large, fuzzy baby. I also have another SLW that could possibly be male, but I'm not sure......it's kind of half way there between fuzzy baby and feathery pullet........

I don't necessarily think your chick is a roo......Comb doesn't look roo-ish, but feet might.....
