5 week old gosling with hard crop

I have done this for my dogs and cats. I once saved a pidgin that 1 of my nieghbors idiot cousins shot with a BB gun in my yard. The poor bird lost its wing to save its life, but we got it companions to try and make him happy.I saved my outside cat Patches when a male cat ummm violated her after her spay and the inside of her girl parts where hanging out of her. We had to rush her to the vet to help her.

I was raised to take responsibility for my animals, save them if I could, put them down humanely if they are suffering. I hope to teach my kids the same values.

She is ALOT smaller than her siblings. I thought it was because the others seem to be boys, but if it was lack of niacin then she may not be a she after all! Would a gosling lacking niacin go off food though? She ( since I have been calling it a she I'll stick to it) can't seem to use her legs and her head is still shaking. There is no food in her at all, no poops since the one this afternoon and still no interest in her feed or oat sprouts.

Yeah, i think most of us on here are like that! Well I have to get to bed, I start work early tomorrow. I do hope the Brewer´s Yeast helps your gozzie and that it´s not too late. Crumble a tablet up and dissolve it in her water, and try to get some of it into her. I do hope it helps.

Thank you so much for your help. I will post how she is doing tomorrow to let you know if it worked or not.

I can't express how grateful I am for your advice!

I just saw you posted another one. Were they all the same size when hatched? The females are often a tad more delicate I find, just a tad. A gosling lacking niacin won´t eat..nor an adult, come to that. She has the symptoms, I´d say. One of the ones i lost looked as if he was aving a fit, too. How are you trying to get her to eat? You could always open her bill and put some soaked crumb in. (Or even a little bit of lettuce, just to get her going. Once she picks up, you´ll need to let her get to grit to help her to break it down).

OK, dead on my feet now (well, my behind, actually) Bye

She was a little smaller, but now the difference is really noticeable. She is half their size! I have opened her bill and put food in it, but she spits it out. I will keep tring though, she hasn't given up and I'm not either.

I think it's going to be a long night. Goodnight and thank you.

She died in my arms about an hour ago. She starting twisting her neck around, like she couldn't keep it straight, and then she couldn't drink water. It was almost like her neck muscles tensed up and contorted her neck, then she couldn't open her mouth.

Oh, I´m so sorry, you must be very upset. But you did your best to help her. I really feel it was a niacin thing, those symptoms are about right. And, being a bit on the small side from the start, she had a harder battle ahead.

Did hubby manage to get some Brewer´s Yeast? You can still use it for the others, just a bit in their water every few days, to keep them strong, and plenty of grass. And stay on the threads with us, you´ll learn a lot and maybe be able to help someone else with your experiences.
