Well, I can join the club too. Found the first egg tonight with the birds at 7.5 weeks. The egg is a whopping 8 grams, heh. I imagine that they will get bigger as the machinery gets sorted out.

well done, it is exciting when they start laying.
my girl who laid so early is now out of sorts, she is sitting around with her feathers all ruffled up, do you think she will be ok.

Well I have some more news another quail got killed my fav manchurian coloured one called fennel so sad it got through the double layered netting so I have got added aviary mesh to the outside ! X

I only have 4 girls and a boy now ! X I did get another egg today though ! X

Hi Dani so sorry to hear that, are you sure it's a cat getting your quails, i only ask because many years ago i kept quails and i had a pen on the ground and something got in and killed them all, we thought it was a rat but i don't know.
i sent you a pm about getting a eglu,, which we have not got, and i have noticed the gaps are big i think i will be doing what you have done and double up the pen with extra wire to keep them safe, sorry to hear about your pretty girl. could you hatch some of the eggs that have been laid?

i like your little igloo for the quails to hide in, can i ask where you got them from please, i have one but it does not have a bottom to it. i thought i could buy 2 or 3 and put them out in the pen for them to hide in.

Our 4 little quail are going to be 5 weeks this weekend. We definitely have 1 male and 2 female. Not 100% sure about one of them. I think female, which would be ideal to have 1 boy and 3 girlies. Waiting on eggs now...
