I went out to my barn this morning and am now freaking out. Did chores last night and all my birds were in place. Came out this morning and was going through pens after everything was fed and watered. My white pens both had birds missing. The white cockerel that placed on top at a show this weekend was gone. He was also supposed to go down to a show in Avoca IA with Connie next weekend too. I'm loking around and where the heck is Nitro?.... I'm counting heads then to see if he might have somehow gotten over in my other pen. Nope... Some of my girls are missing too. Its funny how whoever went in those pens was only after certain birds. If it were asians or just your everyday person they wouldn't have a clue. #85 was the white cockerel and I posted a pic below from just before the show last weekend. #55 was a 1 year old white hen. She just took best of breed over at the show in St. James last weekend. Numbers 14, 15, and 16 were 3 year old white hens bought directly from Premier Silkies. They were the foundation stock of pretty much every white I now have. Number 15 does have a double toenail. They produced the pullet that won Res. CH. FL over 168 birds at a show last fall. They all have the red aluminum number bands on. Whoever it was didn't take all of them, but some from each of my white pens. Didn't they think I wasn't going to notice them missing? These are in the barn in secure pens. None of the black, blue, splash, or buffs are gone. Can you please keep an eye out at shows or swaps? I filed a sheriffs report and notified alot of the bird people in my area to keep an eye out.
Thanks,
Amy

#55 was a full sister and clone of this one:

On the 3 older gals....this was 3 out of the 5 of them. For some odd reason they left #17 behind.

People must have had an evil heart and really sticky fingers. Especially when your work so hard on your chickens just to get the best examples of them stolen.

Wow, that is horrible! Check Craigslist daily! Crooks are often stupid, they may just be looking for a few extra bucks and leave the bands on. Find out if you can file a police report as well. That really stinks.

Oh no! That is horrible! I would definitely keep a look out on craigslist and eggbid for those beautiful birds. I can keep an eye out on the craigslist up here too. I cant believe someone would just steal your Silkies like that. That is just wrong.

When I was there earlier this month to pick up my Silkie chicks from you I really enjoyed looking at all of your birds and I learned a lot from you. The chicks are growing wonderfully by the way.

I don't take alot of people out to the barn. I get to know them first and some of the chosen few get barn tours. The rest meet me at my place in town for chicks and go no further. What worried me more is that they know where my birds are and helped themselves to them. What's to say that they won't be back? Is it someone I thought I trusted? Is it someone who found out and followed me out there?

I am sooo sorry for your loss... It does seem kinda of scary to think someone may have followed you...
I would definitly say the knew what they were doing... Sad to think you may need cameras on your babies to keep them safe

Hope they find your babies for you. I can't even imagine what you are feeling

Quick get you some new key locks all the way around. It will be someone you know .

Sad isn't it that its not likely a complete stranger. A security camera would be nice too with such special birds.

Soo sorry you lost your babies. Have you had anyone new working for you lately that is now gone. etc. Lots of questions. Definitely make a police report. Those are not just chickens. They are prize winners. Thieves make me so angry.

Amy,
Like I told you this afternoon, it has to be someone who shows in order to pick out your best birds in the pens. I never did ask if you got the wing bands in the birds? We do know the anger you are feeling after we got hit at a show no less. It is not likely you will ever see them again. And someone else other than a friend having top birds of mine makes me less than pleased. I hope karma bites them in the ***.

Talk tomorrow.

That is horrible!!

I am SO sorry for your losses from losers who can't do well enough, they have to steal beautiful birds that don't belong to them!

I can't even imagine how you are feeling right now, so I'll just offer a hug and support for you tonight.
