First of all, I am so sorry for your loss. Second, I am new to chickens and have a question. Can you use microchips in them like they do in dogs, cats, and horses?

Well, to be fair, silkies are chicken. White ones are needed for a soup, I ate it while working thru most of the pacific rim (you should've seen the other stuff on the menu, black chicken meat was the "safe" option). It's really no different than raising and eating a dual purpose from a cooking standpoint, that is keep the breeders breeding and grow out chicks into dinner.

I am shocked, upset, and a bunch of other emotions....nothing near to what I'm sure you're feeling. My flock is small, and new, but I had been warned by more experienced breeders to never bring a client to your home. I'll take that advice seriously now.

I'm sure you've already contacted the APA, ABA, ASBC, and Poultry Press, the local Poultry clubs; hung notices in all the local Feed stores. You've already installed security cameras, but I don't think the thieves will be back. I also don't think the thieves will be showing or selling the birds. From what you've described about your interaction with the oriental man---you may have your thief pegged.

I am so sorry for your loss. I seriously doubt your wonderful Silkies would end up in western NC, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open.

I am so sorry too hear about your loss and they are such pretty things. Someone had too know those birds because I wouldn't have been able, especially at night too see which one I should get. I had 2 SLW taken out of my coop a while back. People are brave. Craigslist or ebay would be a good place too look but I don't know how you would prove they were yours unless there was a secret marking somewhere on them. I would have pitched a fit if my white silkies had come up missing for any reason besides a predator. One did get my 3 prettiest silkies last year. Just made me sick. I hope you find out who got them and make them pay. That is a bad thing a person or something did. I would rather give someone the shirt off my back or a chicken instead of them stealing them. Does the show pay money for winners? If so they make think they can enter them and make money.

I can only imagine what you are feeling...It is as if someone knew which ones to take. I am sickened and ticked with you!!
We will all get the word out, and I will keep my eye out here in Florida. Just had another lady in NJ email me yesterday that the same thing happened to her..stole most of her whites..

The silkie "mafia" in Florida will keep their eyes and ears open for you..

First of all I am so sorry for your loss. If someone tried to take my silkies I would put my dog on them and I'm so sorry to hear about your dog.

Second, does the leg bang have a number on it? Saturday there's going to be a sale in the town I'm at. Now I know I'm a long way off but you never know. If they have numbers I will gladly look at every white silkie there and make them show me the number. I would love to catch them, down they would go and right to jail. It's nice knowing the town cops.

I'm glad I don't bring anyone to my home and because of this I will meet people at a different location.

One good think that came out of your thread is we will now be so much more careful.
