She always has her butt down like that and just looks smaller now. I watch her eat throughout the day but I don't know if she is digesting OK. I will do the video next.
I gave her D-earth for the mites and will order the Calcium.
I checked her coop, it seems OK? Maybe not very full?

I'd try the Calcium and see if it helps.

DE will not eliminate Mites if there's an infestation. I would get some Permethrin dust and dust her and the others. Use a Permethrin spray to treat housing. Repeat treatments every 5 days.

Her more upright position and lowered tail is very common with a hen who has salpingitis or egg yolk peritonitis from internally laid egg masses. Here is another similar hen:

- Update: Taking her to vet tomorrow morning. Just want to give her relief.

Update: she is very sick. Vet gave her antibiotics and pain killers but they are not helping. We are home now and I am trying to figure out best way to euthanize. So sad.

She was euthanized today by our wonderful vet Dr Welch. It was pain-free and she was so tired and ready for this ordeal to be over. I will miss her but am relieved, things were not going well. Now I know more about this in old hens and hope everyone else going through this has as humane ways to manage as possible!

I am sorry that I missed your last post on Tuesday. So glad that your vet was able to euthanize her and keep her from suffering. It is hard to learn to put one down at home, but something I had to learn to do, since it is sometimes necessary. I usually do a home necropsy/autopsy afterward as well, just to visualize the abdominal contents to know what went wrong. Take care.
