Today in many places we'd have to hide the hen house in the moonshiner's hut...

Probably the same reason that raw milk is outlawed.

You nailed it! I don't imbibe, but I LOVES me raw milk. So glad its legal here.

Oh that's too funny! I thought about growing "something" in my coop. Ya know- it would hide the smell, have a grow light in there....But I guess now that I'm "out" I won't be doing that. I tried putting a Norfolk Pine in one of the coops but the girls kept knocking it over and trampling it.

Somebody in the Carolinas got a patent on Moonshine. They sell it at liquor stores now. Haven't tried it though- so I don't know how it compares to the bootleg stuff.

Thank you Overeasy, I didn't know moonshine was so dangerous.

Tala, it's too bad that raw milk is illegal. (Actually didn't know it was, but knew it wasn't sold in stores)

hey i might be wrong on that last idear, my DH tells me it is illegal simply because the goverment does not get any tax revenue from it's sales. Seems that that is a better answer for ya. All kinds of legal stuff can kill us as well as moonshine...

Stills are illegal because of tax revenues. But I think how much is made makes a difference. It is OK to brew small amounts of beer and wine for personal use.

Moonshine should be safe unless it is doctored. It is made from grain and is ethyl alcohol. Methyl alcohol (wood alcohol) is poisonous.

Nowadays it is meth labs that are disguised in chicken houses, hog houses and horse barns. The more things change the more they stay the same.

I guess that's what they call, blind drunk......Actually, I think the danger was in using stills and tubing soldered with lead.

The main reason it's illegal is because the govt. can't tax it.
