5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I'm not showing up on the list of participants but I'm still in. Collecting eggs as we speak.

We just got our first egg in about 5 months from one of my pens. The molt, mink, and winter threw them off for a while!!! Let's just say we've saved it for the hatch... Hopefully I get a few more in the next week.

Holy manure batman. I only missed a couple days.. We don't set for another week or so and we're already on pg 44 (mobile device)! Methinks this is going to be a mighty chatty thread come cookin' time.

ps. @ronott1 I believe I'm still missing from the "big list". Got eggs coming to me in time for the "big set" (lol).

I hope you have a great hatch!
Is there a list of contests posted? I only saw the one on the front page.

We will have a cutest chick hatched contest and best hatch participant. More? Someone want to donate prizes for one?

That is good news!

Quote: It happened to me….today! and NOT on purpose, slept till 7!! Been dealing with a tooth infection that just won't quit and I was up most of the night….as I'm the Chief coffee maker, chicken feeder, waker of kiddies n DH the whole morning was shot! Having my first cup a Joe now…trying to wrap my head around what has to be done today…not an easy task when you're all foggy.

I get so stressed out looking at the USPS site…C'MON eggies and GET HERE ALREADY!! Was showing DS pics of the Creole Orps on Green Fire Farms website yesterday and read that fertility is very low in this variety….now WHY couldn't I have read that BEFORE purchasing the eggs….oh well…I can always HOPE they hatch.

  • I would love to buy a roo but it would be a long drive for me. That is why I prefer eggs and they don't have to be show quality. I don't show, but I do sell chicks for pets locally and I just don't think it is right to sell crap. There is enough out there all ready!
  • That is why I do want a good quality roo to go with my nicest 2 hens. I am not willing to pay the fee for shipping a live grown bird but would if I was showing.
  • The white Silkie I have I want to breed to my salmon Faverolles roo this spring. I got some really nice chicks last year that were white with a blue top knot and tail. Quite fluffy, feathered legs and feet. Blue skin. I just got too soft hearted and let them go to some children and their Dad.
  • Thanks for your opinion!! Opinions are always welcome.
