Oh I hope we get more contests going for the hatch-along. Last year I think there were like 20 plus contests. I can donate a 12+ assortment of mystery eggs, wont be able to ship out til spring though. We will have a cutest chick hatched contest and best hatch participant. More? Someone want to donate prizes for one?
OH NO!!!!!!!!!! Well, no others are showing symptoms, yet..... I don't want to cull mine!!!!!Sorry to hear about your chickens![]()
But just a bit of info incase you weren't aware, Respiratory diseases are highly contagious and will spread to your other flock members and even passed through the eggs to the chicks. You can treat the disease with antibiotics and while your chicken seems cured she will still be a carrier of the disease and then shed it and the disease will then picked up by the other chickens or chicks. There is a good chance you will have reoccurance and other chickens may die. A lot of people would cull a sick flock and disinfect everything thoroughly and start fresh while others will keep a closed flock and not bring anything else in or send anything else out including hatching eggs or chicks.
Im not sure, It really depends on what disease you may be dealing with. The best way to know what your chickens have is to have them tested. Each state offers testing for poultry(npip) and you can request other tests also like for MS and MG. Each states testing varies in cost(some with no cost). You could always call them and ask a few questions. Other options are if a chicken were to die you can send it out to get a necropsy done on it.OH NO!!!!!!!!!! Well, no others are showing symptoms, yet..... I don't want to cull mine!!!!!Right now, I think we'll treat her, or cull her if she's not getting better... I'm going to have my hubby toss any new eggs she lays.... And I guess the rest we'll cull as they get sick. I really don't want to be limited on bringing other chickens in, but I don't want to bring in more, for them to get sick. Right now, her and her sisters (from our first batch we brought in) have gotten sick.... (well she's the 3rd one). One had something similar to her, one had limp wing, etc. and then this one has bubbly eyes and trouble breathing..... The other bantums we have all have been fine, no issues whatsoever. This group has had the most issues, whith the newer ones we have since brought in having No issues!!![]()

I have 2 that I've raised since chicks that are like pets to me, so I REALLY don't want to cull them unless I have to......... They are not bantums...
I've had such a hard time with my flock. My parents who have larger chickens have had almost no issues (except dry pox)......
Should I not hatch any eggs from my current batch of hens?

The sick ones should be Quarantined or culled. Send one in for a Necropsy. You live in Nevada, so I think UCD Charges around $90.00 for a Necropsy for you. There may be a State Agency in Nevada that will test one for you for free. Necropsy is free for us in California if we have less than 1000 chickens.OH NO!!!!!!!!!!
