5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

My bantam wyandotte eggs arrived in the mail today. I think they may have froze at one point though

Some of the eggs, as I unwrapped them, were oozing and sticky. They may have hairline fractures in them. I didn't inspect closely yet. And they were ice cold to the touch. I'll give them a shot though. The seller packed them very well. There's not much you can do with freezing temps and who knows where the eggs sit throughout shipping. But I'm hoping to get at least one or two!

Columbian Wyandottes?? Those are my favorite! Hope you hatch goes well!

i was hoping my banty cochin hen would have started laying by now 30+weeks so i can hatch her eggs and nothing :(
Yeah, Mine are about that age too. I read between 8 and 10 months. Sometimes not until the next spring after they hatch. I am patiently waiting for her to start, I have her with a 5 month old silkie pullet nothing from her either.

Wow I guess mine were just real go-getters. I bought them as day old chicks in mid to late February and they were laying by late may to early June. And several went broody sometime in mid July.

I think they might have layed earlier, but I got them as straight run and there were a lot of roosters who I didn't get out as soon as I should have. They were terrorizing the poor hens. The second day after removing all but the 2 nicest roos I got a handful of eggs. That was quite a nice thank you!

Well, my shipped eggs have not yet shipped due to ppl being trapped by the weather.
So, I'm still gonna hatchalong but I'll be running a little behind, I'm gonna keep my chin up about this.
I'm gonna look at it this way-- perhaps the eggs I get will have a better (warmer & shorter) time in transit than if they had been shipped on sat.
& as we are forecast for yet another round of ice storms here tonight/tomorrow better that the eggs are not going to arrive tomorrow.
<sigh>
So I'm going w/ the concept that I'll get more chicks on Jan 2-3-4? and be very happy to entend my NewYears funs then if the eggs
where here to start "on time" but had a way worse trip & thus no hatchers.

Meanwhile, I will cheer on everyone else :

Yah for all the pictures of eggs to be set!
woohoo on everyone warming up their bators and getting into the festive hatch-along spirit.
It is a matter of hours now until Dec 11 set time, so GOOD LUCK my fellow NYDHers, GOOD LUCK all you eggs who might be chicks.

I'll be bringing up the rear w/ any other stragglers & delayed shipments...
better late than never & a continuing Happy New Year shall be our motto! hurray :p
