5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I think that's the first negative I've heard about the Brinsea Incubators..

I just picked up the Brinsea Mini ADV because of all the positive feedback I've seen..

Same here actually. I was very surprised with all the excellent feedback that it's killing my chicks. I have had a few hatch out, so it's not total crap, but the majority have died late into incubation, most severely deformed, or hatched deformed and died soon after. I've experimented a lot and the only reason I can think of that might contribute to a problem is the fan blowing almost right onto the eggs. :idunno I've hatched out way more chicks in this wonky styrobator than the Brinsea. I wish good luck and 100% hatches to everyone else using a Brinsea, though!

Did you end up keeping any of those babies @chicken pickin ?

No I didn't unfortunately. I had customers looking for EE chicks so they were all rehomed. They were super cute though. the 2 white ones I rehomed as day olds the other 4 I kept until they were 5-6weeks old until a customer could make the drive in the middle of winter to pic them up. They were very friendly I really really liked the little reddish orange one I wanted to keep it but I was almost positive he was a boy anyhow.

The white ones turn out nice! I kept this girl, she lays a beautiful olive egg!

Just set 42 41 Delaware over Delaware, Cuckoo Marans, and Australorp eggs. Might remove the one by the motor that isn't sitting right in the slot. Never filled the bator full before, so not sure how that works. Seems like it might cook or crack laying against it.

Edited because I did decide to remove the egg rubbing against the turner motor. Scared it would crack and/or explode down the road.

*************** instead of ordering something online to put in your nest box for egg laying, go to the store and get the liner for dish racks. My nest boxes are literally the boxes you dry dishes in and then the mat that goes at the bottom. *********************************************
Can you post a picture of this set up?

Ok, got my eggs set with no further mishaps. I set 27 eggs at 12:30 pm (local time). 13 Lavender Orps, 12 SFH and 2 of my own RIR/EEs. Here they are:

(Pay no mind to the time, I never changed it on this clock as I am just using it as a backup thermometer.)
