Wish I could Have that many chicks/chickens.

Total of 38 eggs set. 15 Marans from Chiqita and 21 of my mutts

On a sad note, I failed to shut one of the coops last night and this morning found my head roo dead in the doorway. I think an owl must have attempted entry and Good King Henry fought him off but was killed in the fight. Thankfully everyone else was OK, but it feels terrible that it was all my fault. King Henry was the very first egg I ever hatched in the 2011 NYD hatch.

Sorry about your roo..I am asking the same question as someone else..any of his babies in this batch of eggs?

I had to leave for an appointment so I set a barnyard mix of 36 eggs at 10a.m this morning. The first picture. While I was gone I couldn't resist when I drove by Tractor supply and stopped and bought and auto egg turner. The second picture.

The roo's are:

^^^^^^^^^Brown Leghorn^^^^^^^^^

^^^^^^^^^An Easter Egger^^^^^^^^^^

^^^^^^^Buff Brahma^^^^^^^^

Hens are:
Brown leghorn, White Leghorns and {Production Red, Golden Star, Golden Comet} (whatever you would like to call them) they have so many different names.....

Same here. They're looking to see what crazy s**t I'm up to now.
Once, I had a severe dog attack and my chickens scattered to the wind. The dogs killed 9 in minutes.
There's a retirement home nearby. A couple hours after the attack the retirement home owner came to my house to ask if I had chickens and if I was missing one.
I was irate and said I was missing a whole bunch of them. He said he had one at the home.
We went to retrieve it. He said a hawk had carried it over their courtyard and dropped it there. There wasn't a mark on the GLW POL pullet.
I asked him how he knew I had chickens and he said he didn't. He said "I only knew you had a lot of weird stuff up here so I figured you probably had chickens too."

Thanks for the kind words everyone. King Henry was THE top roo and didn't appreciate any of the other Roos messing with his girls. So yes, I expect he's the daddy of many of those eggs. He was part silkie and part EE, so his chicks often had mulberry combs, crest, muff or feathered legs, wacky but cute!
