so on the 3 days of lockdown you DO NOT open the bator for any reason....correct? there is no need for turning?

if the chick's pip hole is accidentally facing downward, will it just move the egg around a bit its self? or is there a certain way to place the egg?

so this is for going left middle and right?

wow that's a long time!!! hahahahah do mother hens take that long? when I had my broody I never saw her do it.....so yeh...haha

my computer does the same sometines! maybe its the forum?

That is going left, middle, right, middle, left in 4 hours

Alrighty, here is the new pic showing my now 28 eggs set today. I will not be adding any more I promise! Honestly, I only added the one late one because I went out to check on the girls after setting my eggs and there it sat waiting for me. I couldn't resist scooping it up and running it in to the bator. Especially since I broke one of my other eggs earlier.

wow! that's why it would take 4 hours! (get it, for hours?!?!?! hahahahah)

Ron, I set 3 (yes, three) mixed "mutt" LF chicken eggs under a broody hen at noon. No picture because Sparkle is incubating less than the minimum six for the Best Hatch Rate Contest.
what breed is sparkle? she sounds like an awesome mama!

They finally got our gas turned back on!

It is still freezing in here though, so I will get an updated pic of my 28 eggs set as soon as I thaw out some.

Oh good grief....We did that.....furnace went out on a record cold night last week..........

This is a guide to assisted hatching:https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/step-by-step-guide-to-assisted-hatching

I wait until there at least 2 chicks that have dried off and remove them. I do try to leave the incubator closed if there are pips. I also often need to add water two days after setting for hatch.

Short answer is that you can open the bator for emergencies and briefly if necessary. Practice hatching will help you know when.

I am saving the picture now!

Thank you Linda! Sparkle is a great incubator too!

I set 3 eggs in my little R-com mini. One is an Icelandic from my flock and the other 2 are mixed mutts from the layer flock. One of the mutt eggs has been in the frig for a week, so it will be interesting to see if anything happens. I did not take a picture since I wouldn't qualify for the minimum number of eggs. Good luck everyone!
