5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

1 incubator and 1 brooder in the bedroom and two dogs who sleep not only in the bed, but under the covers with me. What? They are chihuahuas. The poor dears get cold out in the air.

LOL. I have a similar problem. One SO, 2 elderly cats, one spoiled rotten 1 year old cat, and a chihuahua puppy under 5 months old...in a drafty old house -- the bed's only a full because a bigger bed wouldn't fit! I wake up some morning in a position better suited to a Chinese character -- or a hieroglyph!

Is anyone setting anything besides chicken eggs? Some of the set dates are getting close but I haven't noticed if anyone was doing any other types.

is it bad that ive read every single post on this thread? ...

Nope. I'm right with ya :D
Me also. I check back every once in a while through out the day so I don't get too far behind. As it gets closer to set day and candling day(s) then hatch day the thread will be moving fast and you can find yourself many many pages behind in just a day.

Some pictures for the addicts.

This is my 1 week old BCM from my very first hatch. That's her in my profile pic at 48 hours old, with her hatch sister, who sadly had to be put down. (And my dog and cat in the background, who still can't figure out why I have a bird in the house and why they can't eat it.)

Thankfully, she isn't alone, because we ordered 15 Buff Orpingtons to arrive a few days after the hatch.

I got her out for a health check, and she decided I was momma hen.

I love chicks, and I'm getting so excited!!!

Soooo sweet! That last pic is worthy of an avatar!

It doesn't have to be 70degrees, just in a room that stays a pretty steady temp with no drafts, and don't place it by a window.

I keep my incubator in my bedroom temp is 64-65 in winter and gets up to high 80s in the summer.

Ah, good. Then the center closet it is.

And I think if I brought an incubator into the bedroom, I'd be sleeping on the couch with the dog LOL!

It was bad enough I was so excited to get a new rooster this afternoon that I went into the bedroom and interrupted the other half's nap to show him off.

Am I reading this right? Did you bring a rooster into your bedroom?

Yeah, but just for a minute to show him off. Then I took him outside, clipped his wing, and put him in the isolation/feed out pen. LOL.

Then I brought him back in, weighed him because I couldn't get over how big he was at 6 months!

Wouldn't mind if he's the daddy of some of my NYD hatch a long chicks, but he's gotta pass a health isolation first.

It is official! I am adding some Millie Cochin Bantams to my flock! Fingers crossed that the eggs hatch. =) I love this!! Counting down to Christmas.... nah.... counting down to hatch day setting! :weee
Love this cockerel! Great breast flowers on this guy.
My inspiration for wanting to hatch, I suppose. And proof that I'll have good, fertilized eggs to set next month!
Soooo sweet! I LOvE chipmunk patterned chicks!
I think it's too late for me to join and I don't have a hen to brood or an incubator. =( Maybe next year. =)
Oh no! It's not too late! Borrow an incubator! Your County Eztension office is another place to look AMs well.
