5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

So I put my eggs on lockdown this morning at 11am est. I took the fan out, like suggested. Filled all trays with warm water and put the eggs in an egg flat. Temps have held stable the whole time they have incubated except now. Now it is around 5pm est and my temps are only 90 degrees. Should I put the fan back in? Should I turn the knob for a higher temp?

I would barely bump up the temp. control. Remember that the middle of the egg needs to be 98 degrees. Watch it closely. Wafer Thermostats can be touchy.

Okay..I am soo confused but I am thinking my Acurite's are wonky. I took mine outside and it is currently reading 37% humidity. Humidity for my town is saying 70%. Can both of mine be that far off, or is there a mathematical formula I'm missing to get RH. Is the 70% that I'm reading in all of the forecasts RH?

There is no difference if they are giving humidity as a percentage. Relative humidity is the percentage of water vapor at a given temperature compared to total saturation of water vapor at the same temperature. What the weather station or news is reporting SHOULD be the same as what your Hygrometer is reading. Calibration Testing Techniques: http://www.sciencecompany.com/-w136.aspx

Well, believe it or not, I'm glad to hear the Acurites are wrong, lol! I was at my witts end trying to get that humidity up, and it's been up the whole time!

Gonna invest in that new one before the Easter Hatch-A-Long!!

Yes, and calibrate it too!

Augh. This is killing me.

Does anyone else who set on the 11th have any pips yet? Should I have pips yet? I heard peeping late the day before yesterday and now nothing.

I am going to be even MORE grayhaired by the time this is done!

Maybe I should leave hatching eggs to the experts. Or a broody hen. Or buy a bigger incubator. One of those things.

I set on the 11th also, nothing here yet.

You are reading correctly. The Acurite's are not reading correctly. Intellicast says Penn is 60% now, so they are way low if they are saying 37%.

They may not go up correctly either. For now, fill the water tanks like normal. I would guess you do not need anything more, like sponges. I would order one of these for next time:

The $15.00 one should work fine.

This is exactly what happened to me. Mine are reading around 34% when my weather station and weather.com both say 70% for my area. So what do I do to make sure I have correct humidity for this hatch?

ETA- my incubator is homemade, so I don't have official water tanks.
