5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I'm so jealous, not even 1 pip. Maybe tomorrow......

Me neither. Still haven't heard anything, either.

I have a hatchling today while I was at work....I believe it is a Sliver laced Wyandotte. I have a picture on my phone but I can't seem to get it to load. Wonder what tomorrow will bring....

I have been so busy at work that I have pretty much left these eggs alone. I heard some others peeping in the incubator......so we shall see!

Oh my gosh, I want one of those so bad!! The woman I get my chicks from doesn't have them, and has never had them...if you have any extra eggs...ahem...

how were you able to sex your chicks?
Ok, so in order to sex a chick you can do this 3 ways.....but I prefer method one. it is strangely accurate!

1)If you pick a chick up with two fingers by the back of the neck, the cockerels will draw their legs up to their body and the pullets legs will dangle.
2)Look at their wing feathers....if you google this you should find some identification pictures....
3)THE NEEDLE TRICK:dangle the needle on thread over a chick ... if it moves around and around it is a female. If it swings back and forth it is male (said to work for chicks and eggs)

Can I get an AWWW? Chick # 1 wobbled its way across the bator and onto the cartons to go offer up-close help!

Next time I will take out the thermometer and use a sponge in the tupperware. This is chick #1 a Brahmacauna (EE)

Wobbling over to offer moral support to chick #2 What appears to be a BOxBrahma

Swimming across the eggs

Here it is: the AWWWW moment!

Sticking close to offer a wing if needed.

Awwwwww!
