5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Just checking the eggs and I have a few more pips and one of them is a Faverolles egg

.

Unfortunately one of my Leghorn eggs has a bloody pip. I candled it and there is still movement inside and I can see where some blood has run int the air cell. I haven't seen this before, so I will be watching it closely.

Hoping for the best...

Yay! Are they lavender orpingtons? I think I remember you saying that they were. They are so pretty

Yes they are! I can't wait to meet them.

It may have nicked a vein when pipping the membrane. I hope it dries the vessel out and hatches out strong for you.

Well all day I've had 9 pips...just sitting there. Driving me crazy! Finally 4 are zipping, so I have a shot at the New Years Chick, lol! I was starting to worry about pipped upside down Marans baby, and Sally Sunshine explained it to me so nice and simply. I want to share for anyone who may worry like me. When a chick pips internally it takes a loong break to rest and acclimate it's lungs before starting on the external pip. That is the part that we don't see. When a chick pips on the wrong end it is really it's "internal pip" moment. So, it will sit for quite a while acclimating it's lungs. Once I understood and wasn't worried anymore, wouldn't you know it, it's zipping!

Edited to say: I forgot to say that when they pip internally the absorption process begins too(all the gunk, lol)

Mine are driving me crazy too. I bet the hatch over night while I am trying to sleep. I set them earlier than normal to avoid this too.

Jees!

I have a hatchling today while I was at work....I believe it is a Sliver laced Wyandotte. I have a picture on my phone but I can't seem to get it to load. Wonder what tomorrow will bring....

I have been so busy at work that I have pretty much left these eggs alone. I heard some others peeping in the incubator......so we shall see!
