OH no! Just found out, the order my cousin placed can't be filled til maybe late Jan winter hens you know...

HELP !
What can I tell my cousin, he wants to buy eggs so he can vicariously enjoy the hatch-along too,
he had ordered from a NIPP breeder the following:
> 5 Leghorn Eggs- Mille Fleur
> 10 Marans Eggs- French BBS Copper
> 5 Sussex Eggs- Speckled
> 10 Easter Egger Eggs

Anyone know where he could get that, or similar, to send me in time for the hatch-along?

I had 8 hatch out of 12 eggs. Of the 4 that didn't hatch, 2 were infertile, 1 quit at day seven, and 1 simply didn't hatch.

My best advice is to keep track of their masses for accurate humidity levels.

Try not to reply on air cell sizes with shipped eggs. Often times the air cells are dislocated so it's difficult to judge their true size.

So weighing the eggs is what you recommend with shipped eggs? Oh boy, something else to read about.

I sent her a pm, but she hasn't loggin in in over 2wks, so that doesn't look promising
on the other hand, she has ICELANDICs oh my !!!

Anyway, I'm going to keep looking for a source, b/c when you have a cousin wanting to buy you hatching eggs,for the NYDH,
you find some eggs for him to buy ;>

Weighing and tracking weight loss is recommended for Dark egg even if they are not shipped.

If anyone has a spread sheet template with the formula for calculating percent of weight loss, please post it on the thread.

If you are wanting specific breeds I can't help. If you are just looking for a rainbow in feather & egg colors I can definitely help. I'm npip!

Try some Royal Palm Turkeys then. They are smaller and showy (white and black feathers) and the eggs fetch a good price as hatching eggs.

Those are actually what I've been looking for. Just have to find some and convince DH turkeys are "friends, not food".

Shame! Kidding, kidding. I was on the fence about joining. I mentioned it in passing to the DH, though, and didn't get booted out the window, so I'm working on the egg part now. Plan to join! And we'll see about the processing..I've always been a huge softy. I can't even send my many spare cockerels away for processing, let alone do it myself. They get lovingly rehomed lol. I'm a poultry farmer failure.
