5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I was bad today. I stopped by the feed store to see if they had any eggs, well, they sold me 8 eggs. 3 chicken and 5 duck eggs. I still hadn't seen what a bullseye looks like on a fertile eggs. So I cracked open a duck egg and it was fertile! Halo and all, I got so excited I threw them in the bator! What In the world am I gonna a do with a duck? I seriously have mental problems

Be careful!! Once you see those adorable fuzzy faces and teeny little bills as they do the little head tilt to look at you it might get really hard to contemplate selling them.

This is what I'm afraid of!!!! Yes, I am going to sell them on craigslist! (As I shake my head no at the same time) he he

I purchased my SFH eggs a few days ago and have made arrangements for them to be shipped on the 6th. So they should reach me by the 9th or 10th giving me time to allow them to settle and stabilize before set time. The Lav Orps I'll be picking up locally so will make arrangements for the exact day to pick them up when it gets a little bit closer.

Still sitting and staring at my ducky eggs willing them to do something.

This morning they were jumping and rocking pretty good and one is internally pipped. But no peeping and no external pips yet. I'm wondering if I should safehole the internally pipped one if it hasn't by bedtime... It pipped last night and I'm worried it will run out of oxygen in the air cell if it doesn't pip through the outer shell soon.

Ducks are very slow during the hatching process. Be patient and they will be fine.

I can't wait to see pictures of them!

Ducks take forever to make it out if the shell compared to chicks. Don't be suprised if it takes them 3-4 days from internal pip to fully hatched.
How long can they breath inside the air cell without pipping the shell? That is my concern right now. I just don't want them to suffocate.

ETA - Of course I haven't heard any peeping from it yet, so maybe it is still learning how to breath.

'tisn't USPS, it's UPS ground that is holding my 'bator hostage. Grumble. USPS got my other package right to me, no dawdling.

I've had them go about 36 hours from internal pip to external pip & then another 2 whole days to finish hatching.
