and I now have an australope broody on two different nests. Silly girl. Is it ok to do a broody hen and an incubator? Is that cheating? Ha. I have 3 brown sex links and 2 black australorps. And these are the various eggs we get

Silkie, I envy you that discipline. I have a hard time not helping out when I think something's going wrong. Many times I have helped only to have those chicks culled by my dear DH within a few days. Every time I tell myself I'm not helping anymore, and then....I DO! It is not fun to cull a chick, ugh!:sick

If you DO ever help make sure to vetrynician(sp) for 3-4 days on their belly button. The main killer of helped or early chicks is bacterial infection in the youlk sack. The vet helps.

I try to hatch ducks under a broodies I'm not a patient person.

Ok, I need ideas! I have made this harder than it should be! Knowing that I put the duck eggs in the incubator today and I only have one incubator, what am I gonna do when I need to raise humidity and lockdown the duck eggs? I will have the marans eggs setting for the New Years hatch. (Sigh)

If you have more then a week between hatches you should be fine. Just make sure your air cells tell you are loosing enough moisture. And if your chicken eggs are in the 2nd week manually turn them in lock down by putting the whole incubator on a gentle tilt and changing it 3x a day while the ducks hatch. You don't want the ducks getting stuck in the turner while or after hatching. And you want your chickens getting turned that second week.
