Here's my silkie hen that went broody yesterday and she is now on 4 eggs even no it's November here in Ohio and snowy and cold I hope her chicks will do ok with her

Chicken farmer I would suggest you put her some warm. I see your coop isn't insulated and if she gets up to eat her eggs will freeze here in Ohio, it doesn't take long for them to freeze

I'm not sure how to heat it up except a heat lamp but I'm not too sure about doin it cause I dont want the coop to catch fire

I have 2 lamps in my coop. just make sure your cord is good and you plug in. and keep the lamp from touching anything. my grandmother always used them and I started using them last year when I started in chickens.. I love mine when everyone else is complaining about little to no eggs I am getting the same as in summer... also have a heated water bowl in the coop.

If you have a heated or insulated garage and a large dog crate you could bring her in. I would even consider bringing her inside if I was you.

I do not have a copy of the APA! I hear there is a sale so maybe need to put it on my Christmas list....

Most breeds do not allow for Splash though.

Has anyone ever found out the why of that particular ruling? I mean by definition they breed more true than blues. Seems like some a lame thing though since the Blue and Splash are the same gene just in single and double form.

Do you guys think it's necessary to put a heat pack in with shipped hatching eggs? Anyone have experience with receiving shipped eggs in winter, particular in the northern and colder states or you guys up in canada? I was offered a heat pack with my egg shipment. Not sure if it's necessary or if it's indeed worth it. Mine, in particular, are only being shipped from Ohio to Pennsylvania.
