5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

You could put sponge in your bator and use it instead of the well. I find wells more useful in hatching then incubatingm
Do you mind telling us why you like the sponge better for incubation? This will be our first hatch. My husband bought me an incubator for my birthday. We are so excited to do this at home with our kids.

Reading everything cause we want it go as well as possible! We are not using any shipped eggs. Might be meeting someone with a mix from Papabrooder. Hunted down some Cream Legbar's locally (with-in a 2hr dr) and doing our own MF Leghorns. A friend is offering her Light Brahma's to the experiment. This will be great fun! Previously we've hired our incubation done so my husband has never seen a chick hatch. The children & I got to by chance once. The miracle is really new to us!

We have two leghorns and need new homes, because we have 1200 chickens and 200 need new homes.

Congrats on the ducklings Aphrael! I was waiting for pics haha. So cute

Is that a homemade incubator? Love seeing hatches in homemade bators

Yes it is. It isn't pretty but it seems to work well. My next one I plan to build a small cabinet out of wood that I hope will be nicer looking (and still work as well).

It is going to be hard to sleep tonight. The duckling doesn't believe me when I tell her that big lonely box is her bed. Surely I must be mistaken. My neck is a much nicer and cozier spot to sleep.
