5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Quote:
my girls were just hatched in march and april and I have recieved fertile eggs from all. Checked when I had cracked them before I cooked them.

I've seen Fugly doin' his business with the barreds, so I KNOW I'll be getting some of his chicks...the barreds' eggs have been fertile for some time.

I'll be taking Goliath out of isolation this weekend, so I hope he has some time to get to roostering with my big red girls, who apparently are too much 'hen' for Fugly to manage.

Well they are ten months old so I hope your right. I've had a few who took their jolly ole time with it.
Cockerels should be ready at 10 months. Brahmas might be slower though?

The recommendation is to use a Cockerel that is a couple of months older than the pullets when you start breeding them.

Oh My!

You will have so many chickens!
They have to hatch 1st! I'm not at all sure what is a realistic expectation. This is so fun to see what all people are hatching. I hope people post pictures so we can see all the different kinds of chicks!

I love that you have Brahma's! They are officially neat birds! I have a Dark Brahma who was causing trouble in the gene pool by 7 months. He's still not done filling out but he made chicks anyway

You should be fine. Below are the Brahmacauna's that happened with my randy DB cockerel on the loose. Now if only our pullet were of age we could hatch chicks that are supposed to have feathered feet!

A pullet

A Cockerel. If we were keeping him he'd have to be named Vader or Dracula ..

Groan. That was supposed to be a reply to Brahmabreeder! I WILL master the fine art of forum navigation!

If all goes accordingly I'll be hatching Barred Hollands & BCM's. Super excited about those Hollands to finally add white egg layer's to the flock, and the BCM's because mine are 2 now and I need some fresh girls, those dark brown eggs are my favorite!!
On another note I'm excited because someone is incubating Rhodebars, SS, & BBR's for me right now. This years chickens should be something!!

What is a Barred Holland? I shall look them up. Also what is a BBR? It's the code my family uses when referring to the lone Brabanter at our house. I'm sure that's not correct though.
