Here it was 1 degree! It's really tough to get the eggs before they are frozen... but at 40s, you should be just fine!So excited for all the contests going on!!
I was wondering if when is too cold to gather eggs to set?
It was mid forties today and I didn't gather the eggs until just a little bit ago and I was wondering if the temperature will cause the fertility/ hatch possibility to go down. And if I should gather the later and closer to set day eggs when the temperature is warmer?
I know, right? I lost a few of my flock, so I'm down to only 2 in my main pen! I hope they snuggle! One reason I do love the cooler temperatures is because of all the new feathers they get! They turn into huge fuzz balls!!!Oh man! Hoping this freeze is gone by next week, when my eggs are coming. I am getting some from a couple of different people. It's cold. It was 1 degree this morning.![]()
Nice! Either way you gotta be pleased!!!!I thought the plastic was so you can lay it on top of the eggs to get a temperature reading at egg levelOf course if you are using a turner it slides off![]()

I am still toying with the idea of joining in. I have collected some eggs from my one blue wheaten Ameraucana pullet that is a new layer and the only one laying right now. Either the chicks will be OEs because she had been in with my golden cuckoo Marans rooster up until a week and a half ago or pure blue wheaten chicks since she has been in with my Ameraucana rooster for a week and a half.
I might have one more random post.My 'quote'. Isn't working soooo
Kalalyn, nice score on the eggs! As they were shaken enough in their travels for some to break and som to crack, I would recommend not turning them for the first 3 or 4 days - this is what I plan to do with mine.
Faerieannette: beautiful sign! And how generous of you to donate it.
CONTESTS: IMHO, We do not want to make anymore work for Ron and scare him off. I like Random Post contests, but they can 'clog the thread', and this thread is busy enough. Perhaps the photo contests could be organized and put in a survey by a volunteer? I'm not certain but think you need a modifier, or platinum member or administrator or....I don't know, someone with a title to set up surveys, is that correct?
