5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Watch us hatch and take noes!

Irish and German here. What does that make me?

Someone you don't want to take on in a fight!

That Irish/German is a wicked combo! My husband is that. I have a touch of German but more Scott and Irish with some French and English thrown in.

Oops! Just Kiddin....now don't get yer kilt all outta line.

I put my Eggies in a lil while ago....things are stressing me already...The humidity was reading 16% so I put just the teensiest bit of water in there and it jumped to 70%!! So I empty ALL the water out that I can, and only got it down to 52...seriously? Way too early in this journey to be having problems. Almost all of my shipped eggs looked very pourous, thank Gawd MsLadyHawke gave us a few....they'll probably be the only ones to hatch.

Try a cup of rice to draw down the humidity. Uncooked that is.

52% isn't bad. I hatched my first two batches at 55% and they hatched fine. I do 45% now just because it's easier for me to reach that than 55% plus it makes no difference in hatches.

Humidity is down to 22% yay! Temp is staying at 99 on the highest setting, but better too low than too high. I should get another thermometer in there, I normally have 2 or 3, but can't find any others.... Hopefully in my travels today I can stop by Wally World or tractor supply and get one.

Have a great day all!!

Thank you everyone for your support and offers for hatching eggs!!

I have sent a few PM's. Hopefully they will reach everyone before their runs to the post office this morning and I can get me some more hatching eggs! I will keep you guys updated.

Just caught up on about 100 posts!

I have a question I'm hoping someone can answer. My incubator is in my unused bathroom. That's pretty much the only place it can go. But I've been using that room for brooding chicks. They are about 3 weeks old, and they are spending their days outside, but coming in at night. It just occurred to me that having 15 chicks breathing in the bathroom might make my humidity higher at night. Thoughts?

No- I have a cat and a dog that would love them some chicks for a late night snack. Maybe I'll add another heat lamp to the workshop brooder and just leave them out there all the time. Is 3 1/2 weeks too early?
