5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Not hatching related but I thought it was cute

I took a few random pics of my chickens and thought I would share my pics that show a story of 2 love birds,
1 shy rooster and 1 very persuasive hen

AWWWW SWEET LOVE

What breed of rooster did you breed your Amelias to? What egg color do you expect to get from the offspring?

One of my amelias does not have the brown Genes and lays a blue egg. I hope I get one from her tomorrow so my hope is for her to pick up brown and to get the brown more evenly distributed between the other layers. The Rooster is a Crele Penedesenca from Hangtown Farms.

I would try breeding an f2 generation but I only hatched pullets and did not get a Cockerel. I hope to get some this year and see what I get.

Of course I expect some brown layers from the cross.

Thats interesting!

I have two last minute questions!!

1) do I HAVE to sanitize my bator before this hatch< since its new and out of the box? or no?

and

2) the morning of the hatch can I set up my bator so its up an running, and just pop the eggs in, or should I sit the eggs in and start it up and let the eggs slowly get to 99.5?

thanks!

I would plug it in now and get the temp stabilized and leave it on. As for sanitizing, I would just to be safe and know it is sanitized
