5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

I took canned air and cleaned the top this time before hatch. Will take out the plug. So far at 101.1 setting my thermometer inside is reading 99.5. I cant wait for payday to order my spot check.

I Soooooooo feel like I'm working with an old tv set where you have to hold your left leg up, right hand squeezing left ear balancing on top of table trying to watch tv while holding the antenna at the right angle.
I would still contact GQF. A person on the Northern California thread had the same problem and GQF sent them a new top. It works like it is supposed to now.

Well, I'm 350 post's behind, and can't promise I'll be able to catch up. :caf I am super excited to finally have gotten my eggs for the hatch-a-long! Thank You MsLadyHawke & Blarneyeggs!! From MsLadyHawke I got 9 Barred Hollands & 3 huge white mystery eggs, and from Blarney 6 super dark gorgeous Marans:drool !! I am sooo happy! The flash on the camera is doing the Marans eggs no justice, they are much darker than this!
Can't wait to see some chicks! Btw, love the ornament, thanks!!!

One of my amelias does not have the brown Genes and lays a blue egg. I hope I get one from her tomorrow so my hope is for her to pick up brown and to get the brown more evenly distributed between the other layers. The Rooster is a Crele Penedesenca from Hangtown Farms.

I would try breeding an f2 generation but I only hatched pullets and did not get a Cockerel. I hope to get some this year and see what I get.

Of course I expect some brown layers from the cross.
It is always fun to have a goal to breed towards

I have towel under it to help keep it from pulling cold from wooden table. Thought of putting something on top but leave vent open. I have the red plug in top trying to help steady the air flow some.

Thank you everyone for all the help. I will contact them about the top.

Rather than put a towel under it, which will block the bottom vent, perhaps set it up on some blocks.
I'm not familiar with your incubator but many have vent holes on top and bottom. Cool air enters the bottom and hot air exits the top.

Yes, the Geneses has a bunch of holes in the bottom. It is important to make sure they are open. The holes are up a bit from the bottom in the curved portion.

Home Depot(or another store like them) sells styrofoam sheets--used to install air conditioners and etc. One of them cut to fit under the incubator should work without blocking the air holes.
