5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

My pretty little Call Duck Dolly got hit by a car today.

The ice was so heavy on the netting over her run, it caved in, she must have flown and I found her out front of my house. I am so ticked off...I was soo looking forward to her being a momma this spring!

This was her first snow last week (she's the white one).

Oh no! I'm so sorry! I agree with @myfourladies, They should have at least told you! Im so sorry hopefully no more will escape from the damaged run. RIP dolly!

You need to get in touch with your local 4-H. You do that by calling your county's Agriculture Department and asking for the 4-H leader. Tell them that you are looking for a responsible high school student to farm sit for you. A lot of the kids are going on to college for an Agriculture degree.

thats a good idea thank you!

So sorry to hear that. Its very sad.:hit :hugs I have ducks also. Im sadly down to 2(lost 2 to predators). They kept wanting to cross the road also ALL the time. They had a thing for the neighbors yard so I had to give them a fully enclosed run. Thank You for the reminder to knock the snow down. I have a tarp as a cover and Im sure its holding a lot of weight from snow and ice. I hope you feel better soon. She was very pretty.
I have a tarp on top of my first run, and after pooling water andd soaking the rum built a hoop roof...2 inch long pieces of 3/4 inch PVC mounted about every two feet along the sides of the run and 1/2" pvc bowed between them.. works GREAT, no more pooled water, and the chickens like to roost on the frames onwhat was the top of the coop.. it HAS to be nice and warm and no cold wind up inside the dome..

Got our eggs set last night. I think we ended up with 11 or 12 not sure if they are fertile have to many roosters and I think they are fighting rather than getting the job done. This is our first attempt at the incubator but temp holding tight at 99.5 and we will keep our fingers crossed on fertility.
