The contest closed already.

I must tell you, eating black eggs was a bit freaky. I would not do it again. Plus, I dont liek duck eggs, only for baking. Do not ask me why I have 5 ducks then <<
Cleared cashe,,Still no tool bar,, Oh well Good luck everyone,,,Peace,,,,

GAA! I hate it when problems wont fix! Especially when they are just for a few people. MOST annoying
Hello, day 12 here for me (Xmas day hatch) and we have some very hot days coming up (days 15, 16 & 17 of the hatch) temps due to be 38, 41 & 37C (100, 106 &99F)
Any advice on what I can do to help broody (Nell) and eggs through it? I always keep water and food next to Nell so she can reach without moving from eggs. The coop is technically mobile - but very heavy - we could move it to under the carport so it is in constant shade, but I am worried Nell will not take the move well and abandon the eggs - it would not be a smooth move! Will take 3-4 strong people to move it: -

Any advice gratefully accepted!

If you can keep her cool when its over 105, I would try. When we were over 100 here for a week I lost all the outside broody eggs. They all overheated. Mind you, The hens that were on them were not my best mother. Nutmeg can kill almost any chicks. She has talent.
Just set my quail eggs. 112 eggs. Good luck everyone!
So pretty! I love quail. But now that I have james Marie quail I cant fill up every spot, they are too big.

I'm nervous because I didn't see anything in my eggs today! could it be that my flashlight wasn't bright enough or that I'm not as skilled at this as everyone else?congrats to everyone that is seeing development in their eggs tho! I can't wait to see everyone's chicks! even tho it's still a few more weeks...I can't wait!

It is way too early to see much. They start developing veins on day 3. Worry if you do not see veins on day 7.

Wait until day 7-10 to really see. I like looking sometimes earlier but I try day 10 to be my real day for veins. ron posted a good pic there of it and as you see day 8 they start to go out alittle further but 10 you see it the most.

I like this chart too. Notice what you see getting to day 18. Just a big bunch of darkness.

You have to take into account that I see veins in 5 of my 50 eggs! So I consider these guys early. I hope I get more than 5! You will see veining too!

Quite pleased, seem to be holding at a steady temp near 100. Sometimes a variation of .2 degrees below and .1 above. Not too bad! Humidity is 50>60. Hoping that is not too high. I pulled the vent plug and it's still holding 50>60.

Excited that this might actually work in spite of our ignorance!

I didn't expect veining so early! Did I mention they are grocery store eggs!!!!!

That is so great! What are they...leghorn? I love the leghorn. Or, are they brown eggs? Just not sure of the breed? Interesting.

Thanks to all the broody house comments. Made some changes I am very pleased about! Got the chicks out of the house. Hooray! I don't like them in here past a week old.

Made a 2 level brick platform under the heat lamp so the bricks get warm. They can get right under the lamp or be down a couple inches. The broody house is 4' x 5' so it loses heat fast. I like the heated bricks for the babies. So much better! Thanks everyone for all the pictures and comments. Wonderful way for us to learn.
