I've said a thousand times before that God smiles on my little hobby, lol! I hold no stock in a still air at all, but I pray, and it seriously works for me. I get great results from my little LG, but make no mistake....A Brinsea is on my wishlist. Hmmm, maybe I'll pray for one.

my humidity was at 20% when i woke up this morning so i added some water and it got up to 56% so i wanted to let some of the humidity out so i decided to candle and i see veins!!!! i only candle about 4 or 5 eggs cuz i have to bring them across the hall, but i saw development in the ones that i did candle :D im so happy

im not going to touch them again for a few days. i have to sit on my hands :( i definitely need a candler tho. my flashlight isnt cutting it. my hands smell like hardboiled eggs now... is that bad? my temp has been steady between 99.5 and 100 but last night it was going up to 100,1 or 100.2, it hasnt gone to 101 yet tho, should i be worried?
Yay for development!

I think those temps are probably just fine. Isn't it hard to keep hands off? I have to keep up a running argument with myself to not touch the eggs. Isn't it new years yet?!?!

You can try adding only a tablespoon at a time then it won't go so high. Myself I'm not adding water even though it is dry in my house, Too many sticky chicks in the past. yuck. Do you have a still air?

I agree. This is what I do when I start to see the temperature rise because I don't want to mess with the knob. Adding the water helps to bring the temperature down.

okay i think i added to much water :/ ill let it drop down and next time not add so much. it drops down below 20 every day tho because my house is so dry. i have a forced air, its the genesis.

The top(edge closest to the wall) of mine is warmer than the bottom(edge closest to me when I'm standing over it), so I take the ones that are clustered in the middle and move them to the outer edges, and the outer edges to the middle. The ones from the top half to the bottom half etc..
I do the same.about once a week

One more thing. Today I rotated my eggs in my LG. For new still air LG users it's a good idea to do this occasionally to avoid certain eggs from always being in the cool spot, and others being in the warm spot. When I candled there was a clear difference in the development of the ones in the warm and the cool spots.

We should all do this!

Brinsea says: If it does not hatch in a Brinsea, it was not going to hatch. YMMV of course.

Humidity increases by an increase of surface area. You do not have to put in less, you need to fill a smaller space. If you you do not have a smaller water channel, use something like this:

It fits on the edge of the egg turner in my Genesis 1588. There is a notch in the top of the lid and you fill the water half way up.

It is enough to get my Genesis up to 35% for three days or so. If it is a dry time of year, then I will use two of these.

If you use the above method, You will be fine. Humidity can go up and down over a day. Humidity controls evaporation of the egg over 18 days. The goal is to get enough space in the air cell for the chick to breath when it pips through the membrane. The is called Internal pip. A day or so later the chick will pip the egg shell and that is external pip.

You want the Average humidity to be 35 to 40% for dry incubation.
