What a life saver...thank you!!
Wow! What an interesting sounding mix! Can't wait to see pics of your chicks!
oh man i just took my clears out yesterday! oh well. now I'm not sure how to arrange my eggs so they can supply heat to each other. right now they are in a square kinda with the two missing directly under the fan in my 1588 maybe I should make two rows of five? or just leave them till Wednesday?
I just saw THE most adorable Silkie cross at my friend's house - Silkie x Barred Rock - the chick is barred and crested, smooth feathered so a CL-type crest. Just beautiful.that IS cool!
I set 8 of my own eggs. 7 OE mixes and one silkie.
the one thing im excited to see is how my chicks turn out from these eggs. here are the possible combinations:
Here is my possible silkie crosses:
- -
Splash Silkie X Japanese Bantam Splash Silkie X White Silkie
here is my possible OE mix crosses:
- -
OE mix X Japanese Bantam OE mix X White Silkie
What do you all think? and what would you like to see?

lowest it's been is mid 20's I think. It has jumped to 40's a few times when I add the water. I need to check it more often just been busy so over watering and letting it drop lower.

I probably wouldn't disturb them again at present. That's just me though, I try hard to stay very hands off - I only candle day 10 and day 19 when I move to the hatcher. I have had slightly better luck waiting until day 19 - often I can see a few internal pips at that point, and occasionally have an external pip. As long as I've had the hatcher running all day, 1 and 2 filled plus a medium Pyrex bowl with a clean white cloth sprayed with Oxine and soaked in preheated water in there since plugged in, the external pips have hatched. Another thing learned the hard way.
One thing I learned about me is, I need a routine; what works best for me may not work best for anyone else, and with my temp issues a few weeks ago nothing worked for a while. What I have settled on at present, is setting every Saturday (everything laid from Sunday through Saturday - if I find another egg after I set, I add it), firing up the hatcher every Thursday morning before I leave for work, and moving eggs to the hatcher Thursday evening after chores are done and my hands are washed and warm. Tuesdays I candle the eggs set 10 days earlier. The NYD eggs made me think, and write down when I had to candle and move, so I don't mess it up - not that I won't, but at least I've minimized the possibility![]()
