5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

OMG I am so going to Trader Joes!!! I've been in there once...it's about 40 minutes from my house...looks like I'm going to have to make another trip!!! That's going to be my next hatch...Trader Joe eggs...since I have to wait until my new roos start mounting the girls...which won't happen any time before these ones hatch, since they're in quarantine.

Sooo...let's see here...this batch will be BR and BR X with Commerical Blacks (which is hatchery BR cross)...my next batch will be mystery chicks from Trader Joes, hopefully some from green eggs...and the batch after that is going to be BR and CB crossed with my new roos, which are Choc. Orp. and EE....

Oh boy, I need a bigger coop.

Call first and make sure that the one near you carries fertile eggs. Not all of them do. It has to say fertile on the box, not free range.

Do the hatching eggs just sit on the rails? When they hatch, do the chicks fall through? I guess I am confused, but it's probably because I am ignorant. I am very new to this hatching stuff.
No I have some tray that have side to keep chicks from running around.. i will put egg cartons and newspaper on the bottom of the tray.. theese eggs are in here until my incubator is ready to switch,, I have been turning these two by hand. Sorry for the confusing...
