Ugh.......P...U.......found a stinker! It was the one that was cracked.....I guess luck was not so lucky after all. Day 15 candle:
1 FBCM/lemon cuckoo orp cross
6 FBCMs
7 FBCM/Black tailed Buff Marans cross
And 1 FBCM is a maybe...well developed, but not moving......we shall see

The one I cracked is still going, but I smell it a few times a day... Don't want it exploding in my incubator.

Edited to say that I am hatching Marans too... But most I can't see in the egg. Can you see in yours when you candle?

I use a pencil. Sharpie fumes make me sick, I worry about the chicks.

I know this may be goofy but do you use sharpies when marking eggs or a pencil or crayon.., I'm thinking toxic fumes

The sharpies work fine. It is better to keep from cracking an egg with a sharp point. The toxic fumes do not get to them.

After all the problems I've had the past few days, I actually turned the incubator temp down. Now it's running about 97/98 degrees. Is this good for the last 6 days?

98.5 to 100.5 is the safe incubation zone. I would shoot for 99 for now.

Yes,I can see shadows moving around pretty good, but I'm also using my husband's flashlight that he uses on duty. It is a 8,500 lumen LED flashlight. No joke.....it shines brighter than the highbeam headlights on my truck! Works great, but I don't candle too long....just long enough t. see movement...light gets hot and I don't want to cook the little guys

I can't see in my marans at all! Just a big dark egg!

X2 I use sharpies to write on all my hatching eggs, Ive never had a issue with them hatching.
