5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Seems both my showgirl and sizzle went broody. Not sure when, I have been working extra hours during christmas and my son (who was in charge of them) neglected to tell me. He was not sure when they started...grrrr.
Now I have no idea when they are due.

Questions:

One of my hens laid these eggs. What is the cause of the lines and wrinkles? They are not cracked.

Egg One...

Egg Two...

There are a couple of diseases that will cause egg shells to go wonky. I think this is just one of those things that happen sometimes.

Odd randomness?

 Isn't that such a shock?? Last years Easter Hatch-A-Long, I had 1 that hatched before I put them in lockdown!! Poor thing was all alone for 2 days, and then by the time the others hatched, too independent and mean to integrate! I had to put the bugger in an older batch, that straightened his butt right out!

LOL, been there too although haven't had a mean early bird. Lockdown tomorrow!!! :yiipchick

HELP! Went to do daily routine down with the chickens and ducks.... and somehow things got screwed up this morning and I didn't open the silkie's house this morning. I opened and let them out and my two broody girls hoped up for a half second and under one of them I find one of my eggs crunched! there was some bleeding. one side of the egg is just held on by the membrane. I grabbed the egg, thought it was dead... then it moved! So I wrapped it in a wet paper towel and put it in the incubator that i had just started this morning (getting ready to hatch some egss from my ducks and Amerucana's Is there any chance this baby will make it? (it's from my Lav Am's.... I really want it to hatch!)

Last look before lockdown... this is my first go with this bator; staggered hatch, 16 due at midnight 12/31. Didn't plan it to be a staggered hatch, but 9 of 25 were clear at one week, & it's a completely unproven line. Those 16 look great! I have to have the bator available when the turkeys start laying, so I have to produce as many meaties as possible before that happens! (don't wanna use the old one. don't, don't don't!)
