This morning at 8:25 we welcomed Milkshake, Marshmellow (Marshie's) first ever egg lain, in which is now a little chickie!
She is grey black, with feathered feet, and some yellow feathers by her face. Her skin is white AND black, being mixed with a JAPANESE BANTAM!![]()
She has an INTERESTING comb! Well, im calling her a she for now until she dries off and we test her!
Good luck everyone else with the rest of your hatches!
Fantastic, 2 shipped eggs and 2 hatched.....I'd be over the moon!Quote:
YES MINE WERE SHIPPED!!!! BOTH OF THEM HATCHED THIS MORNING TOO!!!!
That is great!Update! we had EVERY SINGLE CHICK HATCH!!!
So excited, this is my first hatch from our "own" silkies. :-D
Pics tomorrow!!!
When the first one hatches humidity goes up. You can use a tube to fill the water tanks but it is ok to quickly fill the tanks with the lid off. Sprits some water wit a mister bottle. We have a pip! I'm so excited.![]()
Paranoid too. What do I do if the humidity goes down?
Someone set Ducks. Other set quail.Wow.....I've been trying to follow this hatch-a-thon for awhile now and it seems so stressful. Just curious...haven't had a chance to read every post but, was anyone hatching duckys? Congrats on all the hard work (mentally) everyone has put into this Hatch-a-thon! Was thinking about giving this a go on the next one! HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone here on BYC! ♡
That is very cute! I will have to try that too.@ronott1
When the first 6 chicks were about 1/2 day old, I noticed the very oldest one looking at his reflection in the glass water jar. So I went and got the mirror and he was quite occupied checking out his handsome self. I'm surprised he didn't pull out his little barbie-sized comb to brush his down.![]()
Most of the others do it as well...and you can tell they realize it is their own reflection and not other chicks...because they don't look at each other the same way. They turn their little heads back and forth so each eye can see the reflection better. Pretty darn cute!
20 out of the 24 set due at 4 PM on the 1st.How many are due the 1st?
I heard a story of someone buying baby rabbits at a farmers market and asked the seller how long it would be before they started laying eggs.congrats on everyone's chicks! I still haven't seen a pip yet. last night I dreamt that while I was out somewhere half of my chicks hatched and then I came home to watch the rest hatch and a duck hatched out of one egg and a rabbit hatched out of another egg.... I hope i get chicks and only chicks! Lol
I really should have reread and rephrased. It was very late.Oh my gosh - I read this totally wrong and had to pick myself up from the floor as I was laughing. Sorry if inappropriate but.... Ouch...![]()

It's my second time hatching upright. The first time I planned to mark the eggs as I had half and half so I could test results. Then I realized I hadn't counted them. This I'd my first hatch upright as well. Only one has hatched but I noticed that it did not ki me the shell around or fall all over like they do when they hatch on their side.
Eggs were set on the 11th timed to hatch on 1/1/14. Day of set is day zero. I think it turned out there were more set than the guess contest winner guessed, a lot of folks piped up to let us know they were hatching along after the game was done, but either way it was a good number, I think over 2000? A lot of people had pretty serious challenges getting eggs delivered in time to set.
Speaking of delivered eggs - I've received eggs wrapped in paper towel three times, and the first two times had zero hatch no matter how the outer wrap was built. Right now I have a dozen Dominique eggs under broodies that were wrapped in paper towel, the ones I put in the incubator did not develop and I am considering candling the ones under broodies to see if they have developed. One person said they had had great success shipping that way, but so far I sure haven't as the receiver. Has anyone else had success hatching eggs wrapped in paper towel?
yeah i woke up thinking "i already have one rabbit i dont need another one!!!" and then i remembered that rabbits dont lay eggs....20 out of the 24 set due at 4 PM on the 1st.
Moved 9 more to the hatcher today that are due the 2nd.
I left 9 due 2nd and 3rd from a different rooster in the incubator.
I hope they are right on time so I'll know my temps were good overall after a bunch of dips and spikes.

It takes faith.
