5th Annual BYC New Year's Day 2014 Hatch-A-Long

Oh my gosh - I read this totally wrong and had to pick myself up from the floor as I was laughing. Sorry if inappropriate but.... Ouch...

That is exactly what I thought when I read it "OUCH" & LOL (typos & funny wording happen, frequently to me, sometimes to others)

Got them from user Jlynnet. She shipped 2 and both hatched. Feel bad saying this but its my first hatch too!!!! They are from her breeding pair that she got from GFF.

That is FANTASTIC. Several of us on the SFH Thread have begun to notice a trend toward lower hatch rates on SFH shipped vs other breeds shipped, might still just be bad luck but we are all kinds puzzling over the trend so your 100% is great news! You will have so much fun watching them go through all the color changes as they grow. Put my name on your list for when these 2 are making fertile eggs pls :)

my boyfriend thought i was crazy because i heard an egg cheep but then when i was outside (cuz a chicken got out of my 6ft fence...) and came back in he was standing over the bator saying "i think i heard one chirp!!!" this is so nerve racking! no pips just peeps :) i have to go to my bfs house tonight for a new years eve party so im trying to set up a hatch cam but my new laptop wont recognize my old webcam that attaches through a USB. i guess ill just have to use the built in one.
HA HA HA - same here w/ my DH, (he has some hearing loss from military so its worse for him, I esp, hear the perticular high picked peeep! they make when they 1st pop the shell top off & go running to watch them climb out & DH thinks I'm nuts b/c he never hears the sound whereas I hear very high picked stuff better than low sounds like distant dog barks & trucks going by which he hears, makes things funny sometimes ;)

---& to all the new hatchers, remember, from internal pip (when they are starting to breath & therefore peep in the air cell) they _can go a full 24hr on that air b/f they must external pip. So get your chips/popcorn/drinks ect & get ready for the long long long wait (although they can be really fast about it too so you never know til you know). HAVE FUN!

I didn't have any pips yet either by the time I left for work at 8am this morning.

Maybe you'll come home to hatched chicks! That happened to me last time. I requested to be off hatch day and the following day, worked a 6 hour shift on day 20, no pips, peeps, anything. Came home to 5 xhicks causing mayhem in the bator.

20 hours in and my little wrong ender was still not out. I assisted.... now he is in the incubator resting in half of the egg. I am reluctant to pull him the rest of the way out worried that the yolk sac isn't fully absorbed yet. Taking the girls to the movies and when I get back I hope he has freed himself the rest of the way.

Awesome to read about all the excitement of chicks pipping.

So out of 33 I only have 6-7 that made it! But with the new thermostat it does not vary like it did.I should have did it to begin with and not try to make it work. I put more eggs in there and will have a staggered hatch.

yeah this is getting interesting thinking I hear them but then I'm not sure. I already got my coffee and bagel sitting at my bator!
