My upside down pipped BCM hatched at 12:09. May not have won the race, but I'm really glad she hatched!!

It looks like she can eat so she should should be fine!

Oh yeah! There are lot of people enjoying the New Year already back east from us! Happy New Year to you all! And congratulations to all that have their new chicks, new pips, and right at this moment..zipping! And, one more for Ron..or his girls..can't remember if it's girls you have, or just a daughter...but here is a photo for you too... Or two.... I have to check back later..still have two hrs. to go until we hit midnight here. Maybe more chickies will have hatched!

1st hatch of the new year at 12:03 est. Wilkie, looks like maybe a splash. We'll see when it fluffs up. Up to 7 with 5 more silkies pipped and some of my large crosses rockin it up!

Oh heck she should be fine, it could maybe even straighten up. I was thinking it might be crossed, she is a Beautiful little chick!

Cross beaks can go either way, either stay relatively straight with a slight cross so it can still eat and drink etc and they can live long into adult hood. Or it can get so severe that the bottom portion ends up at a severe sideways angle. I have only attempted to raise one cross beak chick and I loved her she was sweet her name was peaches, her cross was very severe i noticed it at 1week old and the cross got worse everyday and she slowly starved to death(I feed her best I could) she ended up dying at a very young age of 7 weeks old. It was sad and I told myself Id cull any future cross beaks.

It may not be the case with yours, only time will tell. There is a great thread on here that is a support group for people with cross beak chicks/chickens called diary of a crossbeak. You could check it out.

edited to add - cross beak is genetic so don't breed from a crossbeak chicken.

She's OUT!!!

My first new years baby was hatched @ 12:17 - 21 days and 17 minutes! Really bad pic coming...

I came home from my New Year's Eve party and had 6 more chicks!! 2 more have hatched since then, and 11 more have pipped! Now I understand when people say they're coming out like popcorn!
