I woke up to a pip!

I just can't believe it!

Me too!!! It was so hard for me to not shout out with excitement...bator is in my room, and hubby is fast asleep...how frustrating!

Maybe we WILL have New Year's babies!

These have got to be the cutest chicks ever, I am in love with them there color is lovely

Well it's 12:30 here and we have the two chicks from earlier and 9 pips. The chick with the bloody pip started to have some obvious problems so I opened the pip up a little and cleaned some dried membrane and blood clots from it's beak and face I also removed most of the shell from the end of the egg so I can better monitor it's progress. Now that it's not struggling to breath it's resting. I think it's going to be OK but it's clear that it has bled out quite a bit.

Oh that was fun! Just went outside to bang on my pan..like I do every year..and my DH gets the car alarms going..boy, it was way noisy this year out there! Love it! Fireworks every where, car alarms going off every where, and..a cop car going off in the neighborhood. Had to wonder is something was actually going on there, but it stopped about a min. into the noise. Still hearing some fireworks here and there. This was a fun one this ...well...past year.

Hilarious! I could never go outside and be so noisy like that not even in the day time lol. It sounds like you had a ton of fun.

Ron your hatch cam is great and the chicks are super cute the chicks are chirping up a storm. Im gonna leave it on for background noise until my own eggs start providing me some entertainment.

Well, I'm pretty devastated. That last minute temp spike killed every chick but the one who has hatched. I saw no movement so I carefully opened all the eggs and all were dead. Some had internally pipped and were perfect and would have hatched if not for that temp spike. I am so sad.

I am very sorry to hear about your temp spike and the loss of the chicks that is very sad

I am very happy you have one though. I hope you are able to find him a friend .

After the last to hatches failing and helping 2 sick horse the last 2 days...this is a very welcome and wonderful surprise for New Years Day!

I went to bed last night just after midnight and had 2 pips. One from a Marans egg, one from a Silkie egg. They made no progress through the night still 2 tiny pips. Today they should start up with more action though.

well at around 1:30 am my first chick hatched, then another at 3 am and when I fell asleep a third was in the process. now I just woke up at 7:30 am to 5 chicks running around and 2 unzipping

My thermostat 'forgot' to turn the light off for some reason. As soon as I smacked it it turned the light right off, but it was too late

I'm so sorry, that must be hard to take. Will you be getting a friend for your singleton?

I'm gonna try. There are some chicks for sale on craigslist near me so I'm gonna find out how old they are. I also have a six week old silkie chick that's pretty small so she's my backup.

three OEs two cream eggs from an EE and a leghorn and another OE is unzipping.

when do you decide an egg isnt going to pip and you remove it? and how will i know what went wrong? I think the two that didnt pip yet was because they had detached air cells.
