Morning, peeps! I woke up to 7 chicks at 4 am and an 8th a half hour later with one more pipped :) The one that pipped the wrong end of the egg made it out fine all by itself, which makes me very happy indeed.

bantambury - I have a cross-beaked White Silkie hen, her cross didn't appear until she was 4 weeks old and I could not bring myself to euthanize her. It was very slight when I noticed it, now it is severe (she hatched 2/10/13). She has to work very hard to get enough to eat, carries no extra weight and probably not really even enough. She is perfect except that beak and it kills me. Her name is Marshmallow (named by DH) and we adore her, she has a ton of personality, but I know she will probably not live a normal life span. We will enjoy her as long as we can. If you keep yours just be mindful of what may be in its future. We feed that pen of Silkies with a large round dog bowl and keep it filled so she can scoop out food more easily.

Very happy to see all the hatches that happened overnight!

Who is pipping/hatching today?

three OEs two cream eggs from an EE and a leghorn and another OE is unzipping.

when do you decide an egg isnt going to pip and you remove it? and how will i know what went wrong? I think the two that didnt pip yet was because they had detached air cells.

If you have chicks to remove, candle the unpipped eggs at that time and see if there is any movement. If there are no chicks and no other pips I would probably go ahead and candle quickly and make sure there's plenty of warmed water on hand in a spray bottle in case there is a pip you hadn't seen. If the chicks inside the eggs are still moving, put on your patience hat and make sure your water reservoirs are full :)

moved the Lone ranger to new home outra bator hopefully other chicks will hatch no pips yet and i hear nothing and see nothing moving

gave it a bunny to cuddle up with its lonely(changed pic color so you can see it under heat lamp)

I'll join as we just filled the incubator up before the new year. 34 eggs total in their right now but we plan to fill it up to it's max (48). The babies should hatch between the 13th and the 19th. We always have our eggs hatch at around 18 days.

Welcome to the fun. The thread is going to move very fast over the next couple days and there are going to be TONS of chick pics. Glad you found us here. We all set on or around Dec 11th and our babies are due to hatch TODAY, though quite a few chicks have already arrived early and Im sure many will be a little late also. Your welcome to follow along with us.
