@bantambury Putting my Partridge rooster with my silkie hen after seeing how cute their chicks could be!!

Thanks! I love my partridge! I have a white silkie and a splash......those were Milkshakes parents...
I didn't want another white or splash....not to be mean or anything, but yeah....I was rellly hoping for a different color....buff or something....im so happy! she turned out wonderful!

you should breed them! I would love to see them!

this isn't relly a good pic, but just to show her colors:

here is my new little white baby:

Here is another silkie.....I don't know its coloring.....anyways it has a slightly crossed beak.

I wasn't going to say anything, but since you ask this is what she said- Since she breeds to have chickens that are healthy and make healthy chicks she would most likely cull the chick. Now if you are just raising the chick to have a pet, she would wait to see if it gets worse. Her experience is that it usually does, and you need to prepare yourself for that....
Not great news, but it happens when you are bringing new life into the world.... sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. And she says to make sure to tell you the hen that the egg came from should be used for eating eggs and not to use her for chicks.
Excellent advice.
Prey animals or those that don't care for their young after birth produce way more than are ever expected to live. It's important for us mammals to understand that and to know all can't be saved.
For the millions of sea turtle eggs laid only about 10% even make it to the sea from the nest.
Same for fish like the pike family. 20,000 eggs laid from one large female and 1% live to adulthood.
That's just nature.

First hatch, the silkie "Rion" from my coop, two of my 4 shipped appenzellers are pipped! Hope you enjoy the hatch pics.
All the success people are having with shipped eggs makes them quite promising.

Can you guys believe how many people are currently viewing this thread. The number grows every day/hour.

Not much from our house since the last report. We have 6 out, with five other stalled pips. Hopefully these five and the other 11 that are the incubator will get their second wind before to long.

400

Here are my only 2 that hatched out of 38 I set. One is a BCM mix(dad could be a white orp, blue maran, BCM, or black tailed buff maran) other is a white leg horn crossed with a ccl, or so I think was a shipped egg.

Thank you!

Again GREAT pics! The last chick does look maybe buff. Are these Silkie chicks from your own eggs or did you buy them from someone? Crossbeak is genetic so if it from your eggs you shouldn't breed from your Silkie anymore, if you got the eggs from else where you need to let the breeder know that her hens are passing this defect along to chicks so they can stop using their hens for breeding.

@Pozees @Cynthia12

you guys will get a LOAD out of this one!

So I was taking a picture of my Japanese Bantam when....

Yeah....that was my thinking/...cull. I relly don't want to....if it IS a hen then we will keep her for eating eggs.....if it is a rooster we will give him back to my breeder.

my question is....all my birds have come from my breeder. if I try to mate my jap bantams or silkies....could they possibly BE siblings? I don't want them to end up having chicks with defects....how does your sister breed? how does she make shure NONE of her birds are siblings?

omg LMBO tooo freaking funny
