I have up for auction 6+ Apenzeller Spitzhauban eggs. The pictures are not that good, pretty bad actually but this give you an idea what they look like. I am a terrible photographer, but I will try to get better picture later on. They are great qualty and have nice temperment. They are a rare breed that needs more breeders.

Shipping is $12.00 extra. I do not have a paypal account at the current time. I can only accept checks or money orders sorry for any inconvience. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks.

Your birds are quite pretty, but the spitzhauben should have a forward facing crest. I notice that only 1 pic shows the head and the crest is incorrrect on that ones. Are they all like that?

I had a bad time trying to get picture. That may be why it looks bad and the fact they have be runing toward a mud hole everytime that get a chance either doesn't help. I believe the a great qualty as I have had a woman by some before and had pretty good luck with showing. I know the are not APA accept I am not sure how she showed she explain the thing she did I do not know to much about showing as I am just now getting into mostly when I went to shows until recently was just to find birds and meet breeders it may be a thing just at the club's show, but she did have pretty good luck showing.
I need to get better pictures I was just crunch for time and they where laying like crazy so I decided to use what I could get. If you do decide you want some you can bid if you want, but I would be willing to trade for serama eggs just pm me.

Thanks-If you have any more questions please let me know.

I see alot of backward crests so it would not be Spitzhauben's standard. We are hoping that Spitzhaubens will be accepted in the APA!

If that is all you have from your flock, try to cull out the backward crests and start keeping the forward crests. See the Spitzhauben sites in here and Facebook. Hope it will give you a start with what you have. It is NOT easy culling your best when all of them are backward or polish crests. The fuller mop heads are a NO NO in the Spitzhaubens and to be culled out totally. However if you are incline to keep them, they make great eye candy!

Enjoy your Spitz!

I keep Spitzhaubens as well. While I know that they are to have a forward crest, I must say that I wish the preference (standard-wise) would be for them to be backwards for one reason: I like the feathers not interfering with their sight as is often an issue with the Polish.

I have an adorable little mix breed, perhaps from sultan/cochin or crevecouer/cochin (there are a couple other options), I absoulutely love her and would like to figure out who made her. She is small, black, feather-legged and round and like a cochin personality-wise, but she has a fabulous little crest. Not too big or showy. It will never interfere with her eyesight, nor will it get dirty or wet when she eats. And yet, it adds just another little "oomph" of visual beauty to see her. (If I take a pic, I'll post.)

I have had Polish, that on rainy, snowy, icy days, get brought in for a bath and blow dry so they can see or lift their ice/mud-laden crests.

I would be tempted even though they are not "up to standard" but I can't without more pics. A little off is one thing but a lot off is another and most of the pics don't show the full crest.

The crests should not bother them at all if they are forward. I've had muddy ones and they didn't get to their vision or blindsided. They should not be full. Should be more like a mohawk with no side swigs.

The Spitzhaubens of the Old World say NO backward crests or Polish like crests. Those type of Spitzhauben traits would be fine for backyard but NOT for showing. If you get placed award for your Spitzhaubens having backward crests, then I would challenge the judge themselves! I know APA does not recognize Spitzhaubens so no worries there because there isn't a class for them. For local shows and 4H, it would not do the breed any good by showing backward crests when they should be forward but I am not going to argue what is really traditionally the TRUE Spitzhauben's crests should be. I've gotten backward crests and I cull them out as pets or egg laying only, not to be bred on. Out of Ideal's Spitzhaubens as well as Julie Gabbard's Spitzhaubens, I culled all but three of the pullets that have forward crests and not too much crests on them.

I am planning on getting MORE Spitzhaubens to add to my flock that two of my friends have some of my better Spitzhaubens with one Gabbard Spitzhauben roo. I personally WILL NOT buy any of Julie Gabbard's Spitz anymore but stick with Allenwranch's or Carla in OK's and Ideal's Spitzhaubens and CULL HARD! Even with 25, you would be lucky to get one, two and maybe at the most, three of the BEST forward crested pullets.

There is a place you can start somewhere if you can not get any more. Alot of the hatcheries have sold out Spitzhaubens and its HARD to find.
