6 Month Old Duck Died

I’m heartbroken. It’s taken hours to write this.
One of two females died in the duck house last night.
She separated herself from the quack pack yesterday, and didn’t eat.
I picked her up, checked her, and told her that I love her, knowing that she wouldn’t walk out with the others this morning.

Question. She’s been laying an egg a day for 10 days. I wanted to give them to a couple of seniors who need food.
Now, I’m worried about the eggs. She was only visibly sick yesterday.

Should I throw out the eggs, just in case?

How do ducks get botulism?

They eat something they shouldn't. Usually some carrion, but can be bad vegetables. It doesn't mean you've been a bad duck parent, it just happens. Another cause of sudden death is reproductive problems.

No. It looked like she was sleeping with legs tucked in.
I think she ate something bad yesterday morning. Shortly after that, she didn’t want to eat.

So sorry. Botulism usually exhibits with stretched out legs. Must have been something else.

Since the cause of death is unknown at this moment, and the risk of bacterial, or toxic transfer of something such as botulism, mycotoxins, Pasteurella, heavy metal, or any "icides" into her eggs is a possibility, it may be best to act precautious, and just throw them out.

I would try hatch them

I don't think trying to hatch would hurt I wouldn't eat them and wouldn't let the hatch lings around any poultry for a while.
