I’m heartbroken. It’s taken hours to write this.
One of two females died in the duck house last night.
She separated herself from the quack pack yesterday, and didn’t eat.
I picked her up, checked her, and told her that I love her, knowing that she wouldn’t walk out with the others this morning.

Question. She’s been laying an egg a day for 10 days. I wanted to give them to a couple of seniors who need food.
Now, I’m worried about the eggs. She was only visibly sick yesterday.

Should I throw out the eggs, just in case?

I would in case she had botulism its fairly common in ducks. Was her position in death extended with her legs stretched out behind her?
No. It looked like she was sleeping with legs tucked in.
I think she ate something bad yesterday morning. Shortly after that, she didn’t want to eat.

I'm so very sorry for your loss. Since the cause of death is unknown at this moment, and the risk of bacterial, or toxic transfer of something such as botulism, mycotoxins, Pasteurella, heavy metal, or any "icides" into her eggs is a possibility, it may be best to act precautious, and just throw them out.

Thank you. I guess I won’t try to hatch a few then, as the hatchlings would be infected.
