6 Month old Turkey went missing

She is home! I went and looked out my back door as soon as the sun started coming up. And she was sitting far out on my hill right outside the tree line!! Poor baby is soak and wet due to the rain, and full of sticker burrs though! I'm not sure on how to get then out.
I'm glad she is safe! To get sticker burrs out of dog hair you use an oil..I like coconut oil. Put it on thick, then comb through the hairs with a metal or wide tooth comb.
This might work on feathers too.
And as @sourland said keep an eye out. Something must have frightened her.

Glad to meet you, Britt, and so glad to hear that you found Turk! Don't use oil on her feathers!! IF you do, you will have to wash it out and go to great lengths to get the oil out. Instead, use "personal lubricants" like KY jelly or such (blush) which are water soluble but slippery.

I am not sure putting a heavy coat of oil on her feathers to remove the burrs is a good idea. I do that with my dog as well, though I use a light coat of olive oil on a paper towel and then use a comb with rotating teeth. Heavy oil will interfere with the feather's ability to "lock" like a zipper to hold out water and hold in heat. I would worry that even using a light oil might cause problems, though you could do what they do with the seabirds caught in oil slicks and wash her afterwards with diluted Dawn dish detergent, rinse her with a hard blast of warm water and then blow her dry. That seems rather extreme. See if she can remove the burrs and if not, try one of these rotating pin combs.
