Hey everyone! These are the chics now closing on six months. We are starting to get eggs from them. I thought the barred rock would be a rooster with the tail being so fancy but I found him/her standing over some eggs this morning. Can anyone idea exactly what I have? I found a light green egg three days ago so I know I have at least one Olive egger. Newest picture is first and the last pictures are from about two months ago.some of my adult chickens are in here. I apologize for the bad photos, chickens are not easy to photograph lol also when will I know if I have a rooster? Some of the young brown ones with the goldish neck feathers are a good bit bigger than the others. And have started “fighting” or maybe it’s just the pecking order?

If you had a cockerel it would have been crowing long before now. The "breeds" are what you ordered from the hatchery. Light green egg is indicative of a blue egg layer in lineage and those are lumped into one name called easter egger. An olive egger would lay a medium to dark green egg and are derived from blue egg and dark egg layers.

I order a variety pack and it had over 30 breeds listed. I only got a 10 pack I doubt it’s what “breeds” I ordered. It was a rare/regular assortment pick. I didn’t get to hand pick them. Obviously if I knew what breed they were I wouldn’t be asking.

I see Easter eggers , some barred rocks and i think i see a austrolorp and a welsummer. Also i dont see any cockerals, i think that if one was it woulf be crowing by now or within the next couple of weeks. You have a beautiful flock!

Starting around 12 weeks is when gender specific saddle feathers are noticeable on non hen feathered breeds., usually more flowing close to 16 weeks

Barring width itself can be a lousy indicator of gender as it's quite subjective, especially when we're talking about hatchery/pet quality birds.

I also don't see any cockerels but disagree about the timing folks are stating that a male *will* crow.. I've seen it as early as 3 weeks and as late as almost 2 years old.. it truly depends on the individual in MY experience.

Gorgeous flock! :love
