6 out of 23 laying...2 dozen since the 8th!!!

Oh, and please be careful about giving out your phone number.

I know but since I do own a business my number is out there anyway. I'm actually thinking of getting an 800 number that'll connect straight to my cell phone for my soap business and I just might use that for my egg sign too.

My husband was in the Navy for 15 years. He spent most of that time on submarines. He says that they stored their WAX coated eggs for several months unrefrigerated. When they used them they were always fresh tasting.

Now... I don't know how to coat eggs in wax but this is what the Navy does.

Take care,

Tami

They were oiled not waxed, and stored in the torpedo room bildges. If they stayed out long enough they went bad but were good for 3 months,,then it got tricky, when doing eggs only crack a couple at a time and if a bad one gets in, scoup out the bad part and send it to the Wardroom for the Officers brakfast.

Fast attack or Boomer??

LOL. I will tell them they are oiled and not waxed.

He spent most of his time in the shower and not in the galley. LOL

USS George Washington Carver, USS Hartford and USS Toledo.

Take care,

Tami

How do they oil them? My DH was a Marine and they would stay on Navy ships and he said they had eggs every morning. He said they were pretty good.

dipped in oil we got them that way i guess it sealed the pores so they didn't get air to inside so they wouldn't age as quick.

Southernchick-The JARHEADS were on targets and they got fresh food eggs/vegs etc. and pulled into ports quite often, so they probably didn't get these eggs. We also got the superpasturized milk that didn't have to be frigerated.

lexustami- He was on fastboats, why only 15 years? early retirement? I did 6years on Boomers

Actually, I asked him about it again tonight and he said they are definately wax coated. Says waxed eggs on the carton. I called our friend still on subs and he concurred, wax coated. I did an online search and found a couple mentions of wax coated eggs on submarines.

Maybe you were in earlier when they used oiled eggs? He was in 1986-2001.

The Carver was a boomer. The Hartford and Toledo are both improved fast attacks. He was a sonar tech.

Do a search for USS Toledo and the Kursk. He got out because of politics. And he missed the kids.

Now that we have time he is joining the reserves so he can salvage some of his retirement pay.

Take care,

Tami

Southern--no idea about the rest of the posts, but I have to say, I just saw your new avatar and was like: "Eh? Where'd Southern go??? Who is that???"

Hey Southern, wow! congrats on the eggs! I'm still waiting for mine. I was guessing our pullets would start at the same time. I'm still sitting around work every day waiting to get home and find that first green egg.
