6 week EE pics. Could we possibly have a roo?

hard to tell with EE's, especially from hatcheries because you have no idea what you're working with (what breeds might be in the mixing pot)

i've got one that looks like a game fowl, one that looks like a typical EE, and some that look like..... well, i don't know what they look like lol

the third appears to have a pea comb, but i can't tell with the other two. different type combs may appear larger than others sooner. also, different birds combs, waddles and the works rosie up sooner than others.

with mine, i couldn't tell for sure until their tail feathers started doing the rooster tail thing. i've still got a couple i'm on the fence over

i'm interested in hearing what the saddle feathers are and what they're supposed to look like, though. please explain

Here is a definition I found on saddle feathers from http://4hembryology.psu.edu/c-biology.html
By
observing the Hackle (neck) and Saddle (back) feathers of an adult chicken, you can determine its sex. Male hackle and saddle feathers come to a distinctly pointed tip and are shinier. Female hackle and saddle feathers have rounded ends. The breeds of "Sebright" and "Campine" are the only exceptions. In these two "hen-feathered" breeds, the feathers are alike in both sexes.
I hope it helps.

I hope the majority is right!

I don't want the headache of integrating a roo and this one looks like our best chance. We have one australorp with a slightly bigger comb but still not even as big as this chick's.

Great page, terrific information. I had no idea that the comb and wattles were sweat mechanisms. I wonder if this means that Polish and other chickens with out big combs have a harder time in the heat.
