Hello!

I have two Buff Orpington chicks that just turned 6 weeks old yesterday (born July 31st). I posted when they were 4 weeks old but the general consensus was that I should re-post at 6 weeks. So here we go!

First chick’s name is Connor:

Sooooo I’m really hoping they’re girls but I’ve been concerned at least one of them is a cockerel. They both started developing their combs and wattles pretty young. I don’t know where I heard this but is it true that Orpingtons grow their comb/wattles sooner than other breeds?? Maybe I’m just trying to give myself false hope 😂

Any insight would be very appreciated!

Non expert. I have buff girls going on 4 months, however, so hoping I can at least pretend an educated guess!

What's bothering me is the texture of their saddle feather area. They look, well, stringy and long vs. round & fluffy. That, plus the combs and wattles seem pretty notable already (to me). Let me see if I can find a picture of my girls at this age, but leaning towards rooster for both of them.

Thank you so much!! Your girls are beautiful! But now I’m even concerned that my “girls” are Roos 😭🤣
You know, I got mine as chicks sexed by Meyer (TSC's hatchery of choice in my area I think) and I was so sure there'd be at least one boy in there. I was actually disappointed they got em all right, LOL!

Anyway, hopefully I'm wrong, but if not I'm sure there's someone like me in the market for a buff boy or so to complete their flock. They are SO gorgeous. :love

I bought them at a barn/feed store that has a 90% sexing accuracy, but I know orps are usually pretty difficult to sex as hatchlings. Definitely will be giving them to give a good home since we can’t keep roosters but it makes me so sad because I’m so attached then already 😭
